The deodorant debate. It has been trending in natural health circles for so long, it's almost saturated. 10 years ago, you would have only found 'green, vegan hipsters' using natural deodorant. Now, it has crossed over into the mainstream. People are conscious and aware of how we care for ourselves now more than ever. Yet, it continues to surprise me how many people are not willing to make the switch. Even with all the proof, articles, evidence and knowledge, there are those brand sticklers - those who trust that the deodorant they use is safe for their body. If you have not switched to natural deodorant, NOW is the time. Here's WhyThe big names in deodorant truly own the market. Most of the deodorant that you see on store shelves are manufactured by a few big companies. People are inclined to trust and purchase from a brand that they have seen occupy shelf space for years. However, it is important to remember that these companies and brands are all about the bottom line. They make their products for pennies, use cheap ingredients, mark up the cost for the consumer and spend their time and money investing into marketing and clever advertising - enticing you to buy more. They do not invest in natural health products or practices. Most of these deodorants contain> 1. Aluminium - alum, aluminum chlorohydrate or aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly. Aluminium is linked to Alzheimer’s and who wants a heavy metal floating around in their body? 2. Parabens - methyl, ethyl, propyl, benzyl and butyl. The Breast Cancer Fund has found six different types of parabens in breast cancer tumor biopsies. 3. Fragrance - although fragrance may smell natural, they are anything but. Generally, one type of synthetic fragrance contains up to 14 chemicals used to create that fragrance. Chemicals are unnatural to our body and it has to go into overload to process them. 4. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - this chemical is also found in most shampoo products. It is a skin irritant, has carcinogen properties and has been linked to skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. 5. Triclosan - a chemical added to deodorant to act as an antifungal agent. It has been linked to thyroid issues and is often labelled as 'natural' on a deodorant label because it does not require regulation. Scary. Natural Deodorant Just Doesn't Work For MeOh how I have heard this a million and one times! Store bought deodorant advertises that it can stop you from sweating - and it delivers on that promise. It stuffs your pores with aluminium so that sweat cannot get out. This is why it is often so hard for people to transition to natural. When you really think about deodorant stopping you from sweating, common sense should tell you how BAD that actually is! We want to sweat, need to sweat, should release sweat if we are healthy. It is our body's way of functioning properly. Sweating releases toxins. Did you know your body needs to detox before a natural deodorant will work well? Yep! Many people need a chemical cleanse from their regular deodorant. Consider how many years and days you have used store bought deodorant over your lifetime so far? Our skin absorbs what we put on it, the chemicals in deodorant are absorbed into your body. In order for natural deodorant to work, you must not use store bought deodorant for some time. Our tests show that 1 month of NO store bought deodorant is the general turn over time before an all natural product will work for you. This can be less or more depending on each persons chemical make up. Natural Deodorant Does Work!I have been using natural deodorant for a few years now. If I am being honest with you, when my journey to natural first began, I tried probably 10+ natural deodorants from various health stores, online, etc. I found that they really did not work for me. It was so frustrating. I am a fitness professional and I wanted so badly to switch to natural but I could not go around smelling like stinky patchouli. Out of mere frustration, I decided to create my own. I tried over 30 recipe variations on my own until I found a combination of ingredients that worked well. It worked SO well, I shared it with friends and after amazing feedback, it is now available for purchase online. My WhyBefore 2014, I would have considered myself an average consumer. I knew there were healthier, more natural foods and products but I was fine with the way things were going for me. I didn't have the time or extra cash to spend on making complete change in lifestyle. Then in June 2014, my dad was diagnosed with terminal, untreatable, inoperable cancer. It was a gut punch. For the first time in my life, modern medicine and advances in technology could offer nothing. It forced me to take stock of how I was personally caring for myself and my health. What and who was I placing blind trust in? I realized it was big pharma companies and brands I assumed were trustworthy. Please take from my experience and do what you can now for your own health and the health of those you love and care for. It all starts by taking one small step in the right direction. Perhaps your first step is switching to natural deodorant? That is the perfect place to start.
